Everything about this place screams “average”. Your intrepid reviewer wandered in to the Sports Bar around twelve and ordered the Sussex Burger from vaguely disinterested staff in the obligatory black staff uniform and waited twenty minutes or so in their rather pleasant beer garden. The Burger was delivered by an average looking waitress with a “Burger here?” Charming.
The burger itself was housed in your average Kmart soft bun, along with a pretty generous slab of bacon, and egg and a slab of cheese. The surprise was that the burger itself was hand made. Chef had even found some fresh herbs to whack into it. But why-oh-why fry the thing on a crusty old hotplate in cheap oil? Chips on the side were crunchy enough (yep – done in cheap-o oil again though) and the “salad” didn’t even have a bottle dressing on it.
Bottom line, this place is about as average as pub food can get. It would get you through the day, but you wouldn’t walk across the road for it.
