Well, it’s Wednesday… couldn’t quite make it to Friday this week with the temperature heading into the 30’s we needed a break, we needed a burger and we needed a beer!
The Lion Hotel is one of the first places I remember actually offering a ‘Burger and Beer deal’. Back years ago it was a burger and fries with a bottle of James Boags for $9.90. It was a bargain. This pricing didn’t last and over the years it has headed up in price. Unfortunately the current offer is a Steak Sandwich and Beer for $11.90 (beer is a Tooheys Extra Dry). I ignored this and went for the Beef Burger and a Pint of Stella. Of course this added to my cost….. $12.50 for the Burger and $5.50 for the Pint.
Well, I don’t know if its the sore throat I have or if the beer here tasted a bit funny…. I might give them the benefit of the doubt becuase I’ve been here many times and had great beer on tap.
The burger took all of about 12 minutes or so, pretty quick. The pattie actually had a fair bit of meat in it as compared to some of the mushier burgers I’ve eaten lately. There was plenty of bacon, egg, cheese, tomato, leafy rockett and mayo. I think the burger had been slapped together pretty quick as most of the burger was hanging out of one side and I had to repack it. Taste wise was pretty good, some flavour in the meat and with all that bacon and egg I couldn’t really complain.
The skinny fries where only warm and a little soggy, but still tastie… I did however have to go and get some salt as there wasn’t a drop on them
Overall, The Lion is a great pub to go for a few beers and grab a good meal. Its great location in North Adelaide is convienient for many including me so I’m sure to return.
