Friday lunch time. We rocked up at the Oxford at about 20 past 12. To be honest, when we first arrived I felt like there was something we didn’t know as we were pretty much the only people in the place, and for a friday at a pub in a popular area this was concerning. But as the soldier that I am, I pushed on.
Ordering time, I went the Burger and Beer deal strangely enough. $9.90 for the Beef Ox Burger and Ox Fries with a bottle of TED (Tooheys Extra Dry). That’s a good price.. catch tho, its only for the beef, the chicken burger doesn’t come with a beer.
All of about 12 minutes later the meal was upon me. Good looking burger all over, with lettuce (scraped out with my knife), tomato, onion, bacon, egg and cheese on an ok un yet bit tasteless bun. The meat was good. Good thinkness, juicee, good consistancy and a few herbs and spices rolled into the mince for some flavour. The Ox fries are dam good, but unfortunatley half of mine were warm-cool. Overall size wise was just about perfect, not too much, but I didn’t want anything else.
By the way we were all pleased to see that soon after we got there the place started to get busy… at least you know its a place you don’t have to rush to get a seat, but after sampling the menu maybe there should be a bit more of a rush because at $9.90 for a beer and a pretty decent burger with friendly staff, I’ll be going back.
