With Adelaide hitting 40 degrees, it was definitely beer drinking weather. Beer gardens are ruled out in this weather, we needed air conditioning and the Alma was our provider.
It had been a while so I thought I’d give a Coopers Pale Ale a go. $4 pints, bargain! And worth every cent. I’m not sure if it was the hot weather, my thirst for beer or the fact I hadn’t had a pale ale in ages, but it was fantastic. The best beer I’d had in a long time, a tribute to the well maintained beer lines at the Alma and the fine men and women down at the Coopers factory.

To the menu. I noticed another patron with a decent plate of seafood on their plate that looked rather inviting. It was called the Treasure Chest so that was what I ordered ($13.90).
After about all of 5 or 10 minutes my beer had somehow disappeared so needed to be replaced. More Pale for me.
The air conditioning was doing a good job inside, but as the place filled up people were forced to sit out in the beer garden. Nice beer garden actually, but a bad day to be in it.

15 – 20 minutes later all our meals were delivered at the same time which is always good. My treasure chest contained several pieces of salt and pepper squid, several prawns and one piece of fish. All were battered and deep fried. Also on my plate was a nice looking salad (which I didn’t touch due to my anti-salad policy),a tasty bread roll and of course chips.
The chips were ok, maybe slightly over cooked unyet still slightly soggy but generally enjoyable.
The only way I can describe the seafood itself is by use of the word average. There was nothing wrong with it at all, it was just average seafood. Not real fresh, but not off, just average.

Overall the Alma is a cool pub with a good atmosphere, great beer and good food. I’ll have to venture back there soon on a slightly cooler day to try out the beer garden.
