Beer and Burger

Ah the Elephant, Pub of oh so many Pints (all $5 5pm till 7pm Fridays!). We strolled in at about 1.30pm on the last Friday before Christmas after not being able to find a seat at the Austral down the road. Surprisingly there were quite a few spare seats at the Elephant…. we weren’t sure if this was luck or a sign of things to come.

Anywho we found a booth in the corner, and headed to the bar for a beer. A pint of Becks for me (about $7). Tasted damn fine. Theres so many choices on tap here its just too hard so I stuck with what I know.

I went for the beef burger for lunch, a simple meal that should be delivered in quick time and not stuffed up on a busy day. Good in theory this was, but 45 minutes later after grabbing a pack of burger rings to fill the void we complained and eventually our meals came out. I quickly discovered why my burger took so long to cook… it was extremely burnt, the meat and the bun. So disappointing, maybe the chips would be the saviour….. nope, the first chip I put in my mouth was so cold and soggy it quickly came back out of my mouth, yuck! Luckily that happened to be the worst chip on the plate, but the rest weren’t too much better and most were left for the bin. After scrapping the shredded lettuce out of the burger I thought I’d give this burnt piece of work a shot. Pretty much tasted like it looked. Although I was suprised how cool the burger was for being so burnt. It was actually a shame because beneath that burnt outer shell I could taste that if this burger was cooked right it could have been quite good. Most of the burger joined the chips for a trip to the bin.
The other guys also had either a bad burger or a bad steak sandwich that remained half eaten also. On a brighter note one of the guys had fish and chips and enjoyed it.

Maybe I just caught the kitchen staff here on a bad busy day, but for now I’ll mark down the Elephant as a drinking only pub. We’ll try again in 6 months.
