PJ O’Brien’s - Beef Schnitzel Parmagiana

We came into the city on this Friday to catch a meal and have a few beers for the arvo before our Christmas Dinner later that evening.
We thought we’d give PJ’s a go as they had the cricket on the projector to keep us entertained. A browse of this Irish Pub’s menu brought the Beef Schnitzel Parmigiana to my attention. At $9.90 how could I go wrong?
Now, what to drink? After questioning the friendly bar staff, I was alerted to the $4 bottles of Stella and Kronenbourg. I started with a Stella (which I seem to do so often - Note to self, try more beers), the Kronenbourg came next. So for less than $14 things were looking pretty good.
We sat down, relaxed with a beer in a cosy corner booth and watched some cricket. 15 or so minutes later our meals
arrived. Looked promising, so I removed the nice looking side salad (wasted on a carnivore like me) and got into it.
Unfortunately the looks broke their promise. The beef was tough and not very tasty. The sauce on top was either some cheap bottled stuff or something that was just crap. In fact I think it was the sauce that ruined this schnitzel the most. The chips weren’t too much better, they were soggy and and not real tasty. Why is it that pub chefs insist on putting the schnitzel on top of the chips and soggying them up. You can’t cut your schnitzel with chips under there either - PUT THE CHIPS ON THE SIDE! Get bigger plates if you have to, not my problem. Ok, now I’ve got that off my chest, we can move on.
Anyway, my mate ordered the Irish Hot pot and quite enjoyed it, so don’t let my schnitzel review put you off. PJ’s is generally a great pub with plenty of beers on tap and a good atmosphere to watch some sport on the big screen or have a game of pool.
By the way, I preferred the Stella to the Kronenbourg.
