Okay, the curry with rice seemed viable in a classy joint like this. Nice courtyard, nice staff, nice day. Yeah. Over it came in good time. Big white plate, plenty of curry sauce, all the basics. But hang on, where was the meat? I reckon about two tablespoons full, and hello? What is that in the sauce? O-oh, it’s smoked paprika! Now, I’m a fan of smoked paprika, but it is Spanish, and only Spanish, and as we all know, it takes over any dish. So my meat curry was not meaty, and well, not curry either. Disappointing.

Robin Hood, Prince of Burgers? Well, time would tell. Expectations were high as this place has won bistro of the year recently. I must say that the presentation of the place was excellent, as were the staff.. We arrived at about 20 past 12 to a reasonably empty place, but we had no longer grabed a menu and a seat and the line up at the order counter was out of control! It was a good 10 -15 minute line up just to order from the one poor girl left to take them. When I finally reached the front of the line I got the Hood Burger, $14.50.
Next I was off to the bar where they have a decent selection of beers on tap. I decided on a pint of Heineken ($7.00) which tasted brilliant!
The Hood staff quickly made up for the slow ordering with a speedy cook up delivering in about 10mins. Now for the all important taste test. Chips… mmm bit of curry powder sprinkled over them for flavour which I liked, chips themselves a little bit soggy. The Burger, looked very promising indeed, unfortunatly that promise didn’t last too long. I got meat, cheese, bacon, egg, lettuce and onion with a small amount of BBQ sauce. The meat itself was a little rare, but I like that, but it tasted kind of like a cheap german sausage that had no flavour. And once i’d had this meat taste in my mouth everything tasted like it. I even tried eating the bacon and egg seperately, but still no flavour… What a disappointment.
Some of the other guys that came with me had the fish of the day and loved it, so maybe grab something else if your going to eat here.
Although not real happy with the burger, I do like this place for drinking and atmosphere and next time I’ll just order something else.
