It was a nice Sunday afternoon and my wife and I successfully used Google Maps to direct us the back way through the
hills to the Stirling Hotel for a birthday get together for one of my best mates. The Stirling Hotel was recently renovated and is quite nice and modern on the inside while preserving the vintage look outside. Once we made our way though the restaurant from the rear car park to the bistro at the other end of the building, we found ourselves a great spot in front of the gas fires on comfy leather seating. I proceeded to the bar where I purchased the first of many pints of Heineken. Not cheap at $8.40 each but over half a litre in there and top quality out of the tap.![]()
To the menu, and I must say it was a tough decision as there were many attractive looking dishes. I settled for the Grilled Chicken and Mushroom Pizza ($12). The wife ordered some Greek Dips that I was sure I would get to eat too.
It only took the speedy kitchen staff about 15 minutes or so to whip up my pizza, and it was even quicker for the dips.
The dips were good, a selection of 3 flavours and warmly toasted pita bread. Our friends also ordered a bowl of wedges which are always a handy accompaniment. They were also great, crisp, hot, well seasoned and came with the mandatory dipping sauces of sweet chilli and sour cream.
The pizza itself looked awesome. Bitting into it, its looks didn’t let me down. The individual flavours of
everything on the pizza came through and blended perfectly to make a party in my mouth. There was a good amount of cheese which is something that is often neglected. The chicken was very flavoursome and was great with the mushrooms, fresh mini tomatoes and wood oven crisp base. This is definetly one of the best pub pizzas I have had in a very long time.
As others arrived and ordered meals I took a few more photos of meals. All of them agreed that this was top quality pub food. In fact a couple of people raved about it for several days.
There was also some live entertainment on later in the arvo which consisted of a couple of old guys playing old songs on guitars. They were okay, but maybe a bit loud at times and that kind of killed the conversation.
So if you fancy a trip down the highway or into the hills then the Stirling Hotel is definetly a place to stop for a meal and large beer.
