Straight out of Brompton comes the newly refurbished Brompton Hotel and yes.. it’s a fancy one. With out being told about this place and personally driven there I would actually never know that it even e
xisted. It’s in a kind of out of the way place just off of Port Road. Anyway, we walked in and were greeted by the ultra modern contempory look that so many refurbished pubs go for these days. Where we grabbed a table there was a nice gas fire going that gave us a cosey feeling and also warmed us up as it was quite cold out.![]()
As far as menus went, well there was only one and it was on the wall and under lights that created an annoying drop shadow that made it a little hard to read. There was also the fact you had to just about look at the roof to read the top of it. I can’t see the menu changing too soon here. Right under the menu is what
looks very much like a help yourself beer tap and I got a bit excited, but after a closer look we found that it is their water dispenser…. still handy I guess.
Menu wise as there were no specials of any kind I decided upon the Chicken Schnitzel Parmigiana. $15.50. Beer wise I got myself a Schooner of Stella provided in their special ‘B’ glasses. This cost me a about $5.50
putting me over my preferred $20 lunch limit. The beer was good though.
It was a good half an hour or so before our meals arrived via some friendly bar staff. My first impression was ‘where is the rest of my topping’? Only about half of my Schnitzel was covered with ham, cheese and tomato based sauce. The taste test revealed quite a processed pre purchased chicken schnitzel. The topping was quite
good (what was there) but the schnitzel it’s self was a bit of a let down. Chip wise not real impressive either, a bit underdone. Seems like a bit of a rushed kitchen and 1 minute extra in the deep fryer is just not doable.![]()
The guys with me ordered the schnitzel with mushroom sauce and the steak burger. Both received a similar response to what I gave… ok – good, but far from great.
After we had polished off our lunches one of us ventured over to checkout the other facilities if you know what I mean. The mens toilet is good for a laugh that’s for sure. If your nervous or self conscious
in anyway though you might want to hold on or use a cubicle (check out the picture).
Overall the Brompton Hotel is another renovation that seems to have put so much effort into the look of the place and missed out on what is really going to keep people coming back – great food. I recommend you check this place out, but I for one would probably skip the meal.
