The Queen’s Head – Chicken Burger

Our hopes were high as we roled in to the Queen’s Head on a Friday lunchtime for burgers. We had been here in the bad old days before we went professional, and the food and ambience had been good. I waltzed straight up to the bar and ordered the chicken burger and beer deal. $10.90. Neat – the place was busy but plenty of seats around, and there was a good selection of beers. We then wandered back through this quaint little pub, escorted by friendly confident staff, and out into the courtyard. This bit is a bit bleak. Like, how about a tree or a vine anyone? But anyway, we were here for the meat, so we waited…and waited. Over half an hour – looks like cookie doesn’t have much help at lunchtimes. Finally the stuff came. Good bun factor. Me suspects a turkish bun, wiped with oil and toasted. Class. Salad and bacon were the standard deal, and I have to say, so was the chicken. Well cooked, but not a herb or spice to be seen. This was a disappointment when you remember what the place was capable of once. Another presentable but plain meal, and a long wait. The elusive five star burger is out there somewhere though…

The Queens Head – Beef Burger

Friday lunch time, time for our latest test. This time it was the Queen’s Head hotel in lovely North Adelaide.
The Queen’s Head is a great little pub, just down the road from the Adelaide oval. The pub is made up of several areas, a front bar, 2 small cusioned areas, a cosy fireplace area, formal dining area and the outside beer garden where we sat.
The patrons here are more often than not wealthly looking house wives and local business men.
We arrived at about 12:30pm and it was quite busy. Only a couple of bar staff on and they were quite rushed.
I ordered the Beef Burger and Beer deal, $10.90, a good price for a meal and a pint of Coopers Larger.
They are currently doing some renovations in the back beer garden area so it wasn’t as picture esk as it could have been, but you can’t help that.
Time to get some beer into me… and I didn’t have to rush either…. 35 minutes until there was any sign of food…. not brilliant.. the pint was well and truly gone by then.. I’m not sure if it was bad service or a ploy to get me to purchase more beer…. Well the Coopers Larger was good, but next up was some Asahi… not bad, but I’m not sure how much use that tap gets in the pub….
Finally the burger arrives… chips barley warm but very tasty. Now the burger, pretty standard, pattie, tomato, shredded lettuce ( a little harder for me to remove) cheese, bacon and onion.
Now how do I describe the meat in this burger…. kind of like beef mashed potatoe…. yep it was pretty mushy… not sure how much meat was in it…
But over all the burger was generally a good meal, just a little bland once again…. Where has the flavour gone in this city??
The Queen’s Head is a fantastic cosey little pub with good beer and good food, i just can’t help but go back.
