The Winston Bar Barramundi and Chips

Monday is a slightly unusual day for me to be at a pub; it was also a slightly unusual pub fWinston's out frontor me to go to as I’d never heard of the The Winston Bar and had no idea where it was. Of course this has all changed. The reason I was there on a Monday was because of a computer training course I was on and Monday was The Winston day. So of course while I was there it was my duty to review the place. Unfortunately this review won’t quite be like the general ‘walk off the street’ review as I ordered my meal at about 9:30am and I didn’t pay for it.

Anyway, first impressions of this pub were ‘oh dear, this place is in serious need of a make over.’ It was very old schoolWinston's inside looking with dingy pub carpet and a smell to match. Luckily we had a table reserved out in the small beer garden at the rear and that was actually very nice.
The downside of having lunch bought for me was I still had to pay for a beer as they had only provided us with soft drinks.
I got my self a schooner of Heineken (I thought the pint would have shut down my learning for the arvo) $4.90. Tasted fine as it should, no complaints there.
Winston's gardenNow for lunch: I ordered the fish and chips which happened to be barramundi, one of my favourites. I always find it safe to order deep fried food from a place you have never heard of, first time anyway. It’s $10 for payers by the way.
Since we had pre-ordered, our meals came out in about 4 minutes. So I can’t really help you guys with the normal turn around times. First impression was ‘damn, that’s a large piece of fish’. I was quite impressed, the fish was long and thick, and the fries were just cooked enough to make them crispy. Chips were well salted and tasty.. Winston's Burgera good start. The fish tasted pretty fresh to me and fell apart nicely; all in all an enjoyable meal, and for $10 a bit of a bargain really. Big size and decent quality. There was also a decent sized bowl of salad with the meal.
The others in my group mainly ordered the beef burger also $10. The meat patty in this thing was more tWinston's Rump Steakhan a meal by its self, this thing was huge! Most of the women and some of the men only got about half way through it. Overall they said it was 5 stars for size and about 3 stars for taste.
One guy ordered the 300gram rump steak and said it was ok, but a bit gristly - $14.

Overall The Winston was a decent spot for an average pub meal and as they serve big meals, its a great spot if your really hungry. Make sure you pick a nice day to go there though as you need to sit out the back in the beer garden.
