It was a glorious warm Adelaide Saturday evening that we arrived up on the hill at the Victory Hotel. It’s located nearly an hour south of the city just inland from the beach with a fantastic view down the coast. We sat out side on the veranda
and enjoyed a pint of Sparkling Ale (very good!) while we watched the beautiful sunset. The place was packed out, luckily my mother had booked us a table!
Time to check out the menu. There were plenty of good options on the menu, but it was confused by the fact that the specials board (or paper roll as it actually was) was about as long as the actual menu and looked just as good!
The staff take your order at the table here, but we had to go inside and tell them that we were ready to order.
Food wise I eventually settled on the beef schnitzel parmagiana ($15). Being just about in the country I thought it should be decent. My wife wanted to try the salt and pepper squid and the garlic and mustard bread for entree, so I didn’t get a choice there.
10 -15 minutes later our entree’s arrived. The bread was a good size and very tastie. The squid was
also very good except for the fact there were only 6 little pieces. Hardly seemed worth it for the $12.50.
The mains rocked up soon after, and boy was I glad the entree salt and pepper squid was tiny!! My schnitzel was huge. Not just large in a flat way either, it had good thickness, the way a good schnitzel should. Half the chips were placed in my most hated of positions (under the schnitzel) so I quickly got them out and ate them before they got too soggy. The chips were very good, very hot, nicely salted and just crunchy
enough. The schnitzel itself was damn fine. Have to be in my top 5 of all time i reckon. Really good flavoured topping and breadcrumbs and great tender meat to go with it.
My brother in law tried out the Rump steak (there were several steaks available starting form $20).
He just gave it an alright. My wife had some vegetarian meal that she described as average also. It seemed that I made the right choice!
If you don’t mind a bit of a drive out of the city, then the Victory Hotel is definitely worth the trip. Just make sure you make the right choice on what to eat once you get there (like I did
). The atmosphere is great, the staff are friendly, I’m pretty sure you’ll have an enjoyable night.
